Meet the Makers: Lesley + Hannah

We know how important it is to know exactly where your clothing is coming from.  Not only in the making process but also knowing who founded the brand itself.  At Bella + Frank, transparency is key to allowing you to know how your children’s clothing is  made. That’s why we want you to get to know us from the inside out. We believe it is important to know as much as possible about a brand before you buy from them, especially when it comes to the ethos behind the makers of the brand itself.

The inspiration behind Bella + Frank

The beginnings of a brand are usually humble. This is no different with Bella + Frank. The original spark for the brand was caused by the uniqueness and individuality of the founders nieces and granddaughters. The brand itself is named after the family’s stunning greyhounds, Bella and Frank. The dogs are the ideal namesake for the brand as their personalities encompass the brand perfectly! They are fun, adventurous and outgoing – everything children should also be!

“The idea of family and togetherness were a key  part in the beliefs of the brand from the very start.”

Books, art and films are a huge part of the family’s connection to one another. This is infused into the brand through their creative vision, seen in the prints and designs in the clothing.
When you put these elements together, you get a brand that is made for families, by a  family.

How does sustainable clothing work for children

Sustainability is at the core of Bella + Frank. Everything the brand does is focused towards a better future for the children the clothes are made for.

As we all know, with the effects of climate change and pollution ever more apparent, the time is now to make a change. Sustainability is not just a buzzword to be thrown about. It is an entire lifestyle that is dedicated to making a change for a better world. This involves constantly educating ourselves on what we can do to do better.

From the very beginning, the brand was designed to be sustainable. Everything the brand makes was consciously thought about. When it comes to sustainability, there is always room for growth. As things advance in the eco fashion world, the brand is prepared to adapt to new ideas and techniques to ensure the clothing does as little damage to the environment as possible.

Bella + Frank believe that sustainability should be at the forefront of the fashion industry, leaving behind those brands that aren’t willing to adapt.

Bella + Frank’s clothing is designed with practicality in mind. We know how important it is to ensure comfort and durability in our clothing so children can be adventurous without hindrance. Children’s clothing has to be multi functional, comfortable and easy to wash.

“Weekends spent in the studio creating designs for  the clothing have been inspired by the walks that  morning. Nature surrounds us all and is the perfect  vessel for these designs.”

How nature and the environment inspire the collections

All of the brands collections have been inspired heavily by nature and our environment. We believe this is the best way to incorporate our ethos and love of nature, through the clothing itself.

The brands namesake Bella and Frank have of course been a huge inspiration to the makers. Long country walks at the weekend with the dogs have often led to new ideas and sparks of imagination for the brand’s unique printings and colours.

Weekends spent in the studio creating designs for the clothing have been inspired by the walks that morning. Nature surrounds us all and is the perfect vessel for these designs.

You can see this in the clothing itself. With its nature inspired designs and practicality quite literally sewn in, these clothes are made for children who spend their time adventuring outdoors. The link between the clothing helping the planet as it’s made and then being worn in beautiful, natural surroundings creates a circle that constantly links back to itself. When you buy these clothes, not only do you have peace of mind in knowing that they’ve not caused harm to the planet, but you also know they will last the test of time. And that is  the true meaning of sustainability.
